Welcome to Year 6 – The Final Year of Primary School!

Welcome to our Year 6 class page – the final and most exciting chapter of your primary school journey!

Year 6 is a year full of challenge, growth and unforgettable experiences. It’s a time when our pupils begin preparing for the transition to high school and build independence, confidence and resilience along the way.

One of the highlights of the year is our 5-day residential trip to Water Park Adventure Centre in Coniston where teamwork, courage and outdoor fun come together in a truly memorable experience. We welcome a visit from Preston Magistrates to explore law and justice close to home. Later in the year, we also look forward to our inspiring visit to the Houses of Parliament in London which gives pupils a real insight into democracy in action. 

In the classroom we offer an exciting and engaging curriculum that sparks curiosity and encourages a love of learning. In English we explore the works of Shakespeare, discover the magic and mystery of The Nowhere Emporium, dive into the heart-warming world of Wonder and study the creativity and legacy of Walt Disney.

Our History lessons take us back to World War II where we learn about the lives and stories that shaped the modern world. In Geography we travel to South America with a special focus on the vibrant culture and environment of Brazil.

Creativity and life skills shine in Design and Technology where pupils plan, prepare and cook their own meals in a ‘Come Dine with Me’ style project – always a favourite!

As the oldest children in school Year 6 pupils also take on important leadership roles. Through our Gardeners and Seeds programme they support our youngest children in EYFS during lunchtimes, assemblies and learning activities. These responsibilities help develop empathy, patience and a strong sense of community.
