EYFS Assessment at Brookfield

At Brookfield we use Birth to 5 Matters and our own personalised Reception (EYFS) Curriculum Goals to track children throughout their time in Reception. This helps form an understanding of where each child is on their individual learning journey and plan for the next steps in their learning. Parents are communicated with frequently in regards to their child's learning, along with two opportunities for Parents Evenings throughout the year.

When your child starts with us in EYFS, we will firstly get to know them and form positive relationships. Before they even start their first day with us at Brookfield, we have already formed those important connections through Home Visits and Transition events prior to the summer holidays! The first two-three weeks are timetabled in for us to get to know your child even more, understanding how they learn, what interests they have, and how they are motivated. We assess them in the first weeks using our own Baseline format, where the children are provided with opportunities within play to showcase their knowledge in all areas of learning. Children will also be assessed using the NFER Baseline Assessments, which is statutory from the Standards and Testing Agency. Once all Baseline Assessments are complete, children will then begin their usual daily routine, with regular teacher inputs and continuous provision.

For the first part of Autumn term, our timetable is slightly altered as we build on the core foundations of the curriculum which are communication and language, physical development and personal, social and emotional development.
