  • Long Term Overview

At Brookfield Community Primary School, we believe that all children can become confident, capable mathematicians. Our Mathematics Long Term Plan has been carefully designed to provide a progressive, coherent and ambitious curriculum that develops pupils' fluency, reasoning and problem-solving skills from EYFS through to Year 6.

Following the White Rose Maths scheme, children build their mathematical understanding through small, carefully sequenced steps which allow them to develop a deep and secure understanding of key concepts. New learning is connected to prior knowledge, enabling pupils to make links across different areas of mathematics and apply their skills in a range of meaningful contexts.

Throughout their time at Brookfield, pupils are encouraged to think mathematically, explain their reasoning and approach challenges with resilience and confidence. Through the use of practical resources, visual representations and rich mathematical discussions, children develop conceptual understanding alongside efficient calculation methods.

Our long term plan ensures full coverage of the National Curriculum whilst allowing opportunities for consolidation, retrieval practice and mastery. We aim to inspire a positive attitude towards mathematics and equip every child with the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to succeed both in school and in everyday life.
