Year 2 Curriculum

Dear Parents/Carers/Pupils

Welcome to Year 2's page!

In Year 2 we strive to do our very best each and every day.

This term, Year 2's topic is 'The place where we live' and we are covering a range of topics within this! We will be looking at maps of our local area in geography and focusing on Brookfield Park and how this can be improved.

In RE we are looking at Christianity this half term and how our world is important and should be looked after.

Art  focuses of Lowery this half term which the children always enjoy!

This half term in English, our work will initially be looking at narrative writing with a focus on the story 'Katie Morag Delivers The Mail'. We will then move onto discussion texts focusing on how our local park can be improved which links with our geography.

In Year 2, Maths is really important. We will covering a range of topics this half term including place value, addition and subtraction, money, multiplication and division. Times tables will be learnt throughout the weeks and will be tested every Friday. We will be starting off with the 10 times tables.

Spelling will be taught through Phonics and spelling sessions depending where your child is up to. Spellings or sound will be put onto dojo on a Monday and the children will do a spelling test on a Friday.

Our PE lessons will be on Friday. We would very much appreciate if you could ensure that children come into school wearing their PE kit (plain dark coloured tracksuit bottoms or shorts, white school PE t-shirt, plain dark trainers and their school jumper or cardigan). Please remove any piercings or apply plasters at home to save time in school!

Children will need to bring a water bottle, clearly labelled with their name, into school each day and fruit will be available.

If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me via our Class Dojo.
