Year 2 Curriculum

Dear Parents/Carers/Pupils

Welcome to Year 2's page!

In Year 2 we strive to do our very best each and every day.

This term, Year 2's topic is 'I do like to be beside the seaside' and we are covering a range of topics within this! We will be looking at different materials in science, learning about their properties and finally investigating which materials would be best to make beach items out of.

In geography this half term we will be looking at villages, towns and cities thinking about our own settlement and linking this to Blackpool.

In history we will be taking a closer look at Blackpool and learning all about how the seaside town has changed over time.

This half term in English, our work will be looking at persuasive writing, animal adventure stories and instructions.

In Year 2, Maths is really important. We will covering a range of topics including addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, fractions, measures and shape. Times tables will be learnt throughout the weeks and will be tested every Friday. Year 2 should know their 2, 3, 5 and 10x tables by the end of Key Stage 1.

Spelling will be taught through Phonics and spelling sessions depending where your child is up to. Spellings will be put on dojo on a Monday and tested the following Friday.

Our PE lessons will be on Monday and Wednesday. We would very much appreciate if you could ensure that children come into school wearing their PE kit (plain dark coloured tracksuit bottoms or shorts, white school PE t-shirt, plain dark trainers and a plain dark coloured sweatshirt). If possible please remove any piercings or apply plasters at home to save time in school!

Homework

The children are greatly encouraged to read daily at home. This can be their school reading book or any other text that they choose. Every time you listen to your children, read and sign their reading record and they will receive a reading sticker on their chart for every book completed. Once they have reached the end of their sticker chart, they will receive a small prize.

Spellings and times tables will also be sent home every week.

Due to the current circumstances, please could you NOT send any work back into school but instead send a picture via Class Dojo of the completed work for a Dojo reward.

Please remember to carry on accessing activities on Times Tables Rockstars and MyMaths.

Children will need to bring a water bottle, clearly labelled with their name, into school each day and fruit will be available.

If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me via our Class Dojo.
