Welcome to Year 2's page!
In Year 2 we strive to do our very best each and every day.
This term, Year 2's topic is 'Animals', we will be covering a range of subjects within this! We will be looking at animals and their habitats in science including micro habitats, and animals that live in hot and cold countries in geography. In design technology we will be designing and making a pouch this may be a pouch for people to carry dog treats in on a walk!
Computing this half term introduces writing a program, we will be planning and writing a program to make our animal sprites complete different things, we will also look at debugging programs to make them better or fixing them.
PSHE has a focus on relationships where we will be thinking about and discussing things such as what makes a good friend and adults that we can trust. In RE we are looking at Christianity this half term and thinking about how we treat the world around us.
This half term in English, we will be using the story 'The Way Home For Wolf' as our focus text. From this we will be writing an information text and also an innovated version of the story. This half term will focus on refreshing and consolidating some year 1 writing skills and introducing some year 2 skills.
In Year 2, Maths is really important. Within this first half term we will be focusing very closely on place value moving onto addition and subtraction and finally shape.
Times tables will be learnt throughout the weeks and will be tested every Friday. We are aiming to be fluent with our 2, 5 and 10 times tables before we finish!
Year 2 spelling will be taught 4 times per week in addition to the read, write inc. sessions which take place daily.
Our PE lessons will be on Thursday. We would very much appreciate if you could ensure that children come into school wearing their PE kit (plain dark coloured tracksuit bottoms or shorts, white school PE t-shirt, plain dark trainers and their school jumper or cardigan). Please remove any piercings or apply plasters at home to save time in school!
Children will need to bring a water bottle, clearly labelled with their name, into school each day and fruit will be available, you can order toast through scopay.
If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me via our Class Dojo.
