Year 1 Trip to Eureka

Still image for this video
A video montage of all our photos from our day out at Eureka. The children had a fab day and it was filled with so much hands on learning that links to lots of our curriculum areas but especially what we have looked at in Science.

Class Information

Hello, my name is Mrs Townson and I am Year One's Class Teacher. Mrs Middlehurst works in Year 1 with me and you will see her on the door most mornings as you drop your children off.

On Monday Year One is taught by Mrs Goodwin and Miss McElhone.

We have PE on Wednesday afternoon. Please send your child to school in their PE kit and school jumper.

Please remove any earrings - earrings in general should be studs not hoops and removed on Wednesday for PE. Children can also bring an extra layer e.g. a blue / black hoodie as they may be having PE outside.

Reading with your child is one of the most important skills you can help in developing. Please aim to read with your child for 10-15 minutes every night. Talk to them about what happens in the story and ask them to predict what might happen next. Ask them how characters might feel and why. We are striving to develop not only technically sound readers but also a life long love of books.

We will change reading books as often as possible.

This may not be daily but please try to read every night with your child and continue to read the same book until it is changed. One of the Key Learning Indicators for reading in Year One is to "Develop fluency, accuracy and confidence by re-reading books." so please re-read away!

Below you will find details of our curriculum and what we are currently studying.

If you have any questions or concerns please don't hesitate to contact me over dojo. Our set school hours are 8am until 5pm. Please register to see regular updates and messages.

This half term in Year one our topic is based around 'Do all superheroes wear capes?'.

In Geography we will learn more about where we live in the world and our local area. We will locate our houses on a map and learn common symbols that are used on maps.

In Science we will learn all about our amazing bodies - we will name parts of the body and learn about our senses and how they help us learn about the world around us The children will explore how humans are the same and how they are different.

We will practise our painting skills in Art and Design and make artwork based on the works of Pop art artist Roy Lichtenstein.

The children will examine why Jesus is special to Christians in RE with Miss McElhone on Monday afternoons and take part in music sessions together.

PSHE will focus on how we can live together safely and peacefully in the wider world.

This half term in English we will continue to work with the Talk for Write process and then move on to Stories in fantasy settings - looking at Charlie's Superhero Underpants and writing a Fact sheet about humans we are learning about in Science.

Ask your child to retell you the story we are learning in class - they even have actions too!

In Maths we will focus on numbers up to and beyond 20 and addition and subtraction.
