Brookfield Community Primary School Curriculum Offer
At Brookfield Community Primary School we thrive on providing a caring learning environment with high standards and expectations, where children grow into responsible, resilient and independent learners who are prepared both for their ongoing educational journey and the opportunities and experiences of adult life.
Our school provides an environment in which talents and abilities can flourish. We are truly inclusive, offering all our pupils, whatever their background or ability, a successful experience in the classroom and caring pastoral support.
Brookfield’s bespoke curriculum is driven by the need to prepare our children for lifelong learning through rich and vibrant learning experiences which are ambitious for all. Through this, we equip pupils with essential knowledge, understanding and skills providing the building blocks for later life, preparing them for future education and the world of work. The national curriculum is enhanced at Brookfield by our main driver, STEM, in a creative, cross-curricular approach where tailored learning experiences develop transferable skills for school-life and for the future. Our curriculum goes beyond classroom experiences to ensure that our children are exposed to the richest and most varied opportunities that we can provide. Our aim is to enrich every child's school experience by creating an environment where they are encouraged to be the best they can be.
Our carefully crafted curriculum balances national expectations with a range of experiences allowing our children to flourish. Clear strategic planning allows the curriculum to be dynamic and adaptive to our school context and children’s needs. Age-related expectations combine with the sequential acquisition of knowledge and development of skills to create a purposeful and exciting learning journey for every child. Our curriculum has high expectations combining transferable skills; developing a breadth of vocabulary and an understanding of strong cross- curricular links. Explicit planning is responsive to children’s needs and incorporates progression of basic skills. Learning environments stimulate and engage quality thinking and reasoning. Through various workshops, themed days and interactions with experts and local businesses, children develop an understanding of how STEM has changed our lives and how it is vital to our future. Children learn the possibilities for careers in this field as a result of our community links and connection with national agencies such as the STEM association. A range of continuous professional development supports teachers to develop further their curriculum pedagogy.
The Brookfield approach results in an engaging, high-quality education, that provides children with the foundations for their future.
Rigorous, focused monitoring is completed throughout the year to gauge the impact of curriculum design. Learning is measured through careful analysis of application of skill across the curriculum. Ongoing assessments and evaluations take place and teachers use this information to inform future teaching; ensuring children are supported and challenged appropriately. Pupil voice is collected and used to further enhance the curriculum.
