Welcome to Year 5
Class teacher: Miss McNee
Support in class: Mrs Walton
How many children in the class?
There are 26 children in Year 5.
Our PE day is a Thursday. Please ensure your child has full P.E kit, with their name written in t-shirt, shorts and pumps. Some PE lessons will be taking place outside this year, so please send in a pair of tracksuit bottoms and a warm top.
P.E. kits can be purchased from the school office.
Swimming will begin after February Half Term.
Year 5's Curriculum
Welcome to Year 5. Myself and Mrs Walton have a very exciting year planned ahead.
During Year 5, each half term we will cover a new topic including;
Autumn one - Funky Forests
Autumn two - A Blast From The Past
Spring one - Shang Dynasty
Spring two - By The Seaside
Summer one - Groovy Greeks
Summer two - Earthlings
Please see Year 5's Curriculum Overview for further details.
Throughout each topic, there will be exciting opportunities for the children to thrive through our cross curriculum in subjects such as; art and design, design technology, geography, history, science, music and PE.
During the year, there will be appropriate trips planned to link with the topic - more information to follow.
We hope that you have a wonderful year!
Reading is part of homework and it is recommended that children read three nights a week for fifteen minutes (as per the government recommendation). Children or parents, please sign the reading record so that we can log children's reading. Children will be rewarded for regular reading.
Weekly spellings will be sent home on a Monday for the children to learn throughout the week. The following Monday, the children will be tested on their spellings.
Numeracy and/or Literacy homework will be sent home on a Monday to be handed in the following Friday. This homework is to help secure children's understanding of the work learnt in class that week.
Once a half term, a creative homework grid will be sent home for children to complete. This may include story writing, drawing, painting, making 3D models or completing research for a piece of writing. This gives the children the opportunity to be creative. Photos will be added to the Year 5 website.
Your child will be assessed throughout the year. We use ‘Entering, developing and secure’ to record your child’s achievements.
We expect children to be ‘entering’ in the autumn term, ‘developing’ in the spring term and ‘secure’ in the summer term. Your child will therefore be ‘on track’ to reach the end of year age related expectations.
We will report to you 3 times a year (autumn parents evening, spring parents evening and summer reports)
